National and IOF World Ranking Event
WHITBARROW SCAR

A New Area in South East Lakes

Also a UK Cup and Future Champions Cup event

Sunday 19th March 2006

NEW Start List Due to the large entry on some courses you may not have been given exactly the start time of your choice. Where possible families and others travelling together have been given similar times. These may have been dictated by the time of one runner on a popular course. In particular, late entrants are likely to have been given either a very late or very early start time.

Final Details               NEW Course Descriptions                Results (Available from approx 21.00 on the day)

Picture Gallery of the area.                                    Details of entertainment on the evening of 18th March.

Entries now closed.  We have continued to take entries since the closing day of 27 February at the surcharged rate but stopped taking any further entries today, 4th March. The event has proved very popular and we are approaching 1200 entries. Some courses are full and any more entries will put more strain on the car parking, particularly in bad weather conditions.  A limited number of non - technical Colour Coded courses are available on the day – White, Yellow, Orange Light Green and Red.
We are sorry to have to disappoint anyone who had hoped to make a late entry.  Thank you for your interest, and we hope that you will take the opportunity to take part in another SROC event soon.

On-line entries on 27 February – Did we over charge you?
Apologies to anyone who entered on 27 February and paid at the higher rate of (£13 seniors, £5.50 Juniors ). We changed the fee back to £11 later in the day. If you were overcharged then please come to the Enquiries Tent at the event and inform the team of your details (including entry no.) and we will refund the extra that you paid.

Venue / Terrain:-Whitbarrow Scar. A new orienteering area of woodland and open limestone fell (70 to 200m altitude) in the South East Lakes. Fabulous views over Morecambe Bay and to the Lakeland fells and Pennine hills on a clear day. Close to A590 and 16km west of Junction 36 on the M6 18km south west of Kendal.

This is a first class area presenting technical and physical challenges. There are large areas of limestone pavement that are very tricky underfoot at all times and especially in wet weather. The
walks to start and finish are, of necessity, quite long though sheltered. However, the open parts of the competition area are exposed and in bad weather cagoules will be compulsory.

Embargoed Area:  - The upland and forested areas between the A590, the A5074 and the minor road between Town End and the A5074 via Witherslack Hall are out of bounds to competitors until the event on 19 March 2005

Start and Finish – The start will be 1km from the car park with a steep climb of 120m, and the finish will be 2km from the car park with a descent of 100m.
