The heats will take place in the morning in the Eastern area, an urban area with many cut throughs and alleys, and the central area of traditional parkland with some very runnable woodland areas.

The afternoon finals will take place in Chorley town centre finishing in front of the magnificent grade 1 listed Astley Hall. Expected winning times to be 12 – 15 mins.

Start times for the heats will be determined by seeding of runners, with approximately even fields in each heat. Start times in the finals will be determined by performance in the heats. See BOF seeding guidelines and Elite Sprint guidelines for more information.

The area to be used will be substantially new to orienteering, with a new map by Dave Peel. All courses will spend some time in Astley Park which has been used for orienteering events for some years. The previous map of the park may be viewed here, and a Google Maps view of Chorley, showing the parking location, is here. Competition map extracts below.

The Elite classes are open to all National members of British Orienteering who are W/M18 or older. MW16- should enter the Junior class which has a similar format of qualifier and final.

The Elite courses take competitors outside Astley Park onto public roads, which are open to traffic, some of which may be quite busy. SROC has been informed by British Orienteering that M/W16s will not be permitted to compete on the Elite courses, with or without parental consent. The organisers wish to apologise to any juniors who may be disappointed in not being allowed to run the elite courses. Any M/W16s already entered will be offered the choice of changing course or a full refund.

There will also be two local Sprint events, using some of the morning heats' controls. This provides an ideal chance for local BOF members, non affiliated runners, families and children of all ages to experience a 'Sprint Orienteering' event for the first time.

The Courtyard - start and finish for the local events will be here

On site catering will be provided by Cafe Ambio, situated in the Coach House, adjacent to Registration and just yards from the Qualifier Start and Finish. An excellent choice of food and drinks at reasonable prices will be on offer.
