Organiser's Thanks and Comments:
This was my first course setting (indeed it was my first time at being involved in organising at all) so thanks, everyone, for a great turnout! The conservatory at The Birley Arms was a nice place to start. Everyone could see the info board in front of them on arrival, Ian with his clear handwriting booked everyone in and Peter and Cherith's setting off desk was run like clockwork. Perhaps I was little officious at getting your form off you at the end but please forgive me: it was my first time and there were quite a few bunches. We could have done with a finishing station either side of the door, there were so many of you! Madeline and her daughter Georgie did a great job at taking the sheets from me and marking. The chips were good and the other meals looked good. The staff let us get on with it. A good turnout which is not surprising as the weather was just about perfect. Unfortunately there was a strange error on the map. A road near controls 23 and 10 was clearly a no-through road on the map yet many participants said that it is definitely a through road. Three checkers were scratching their heads as to how it happened.
Its some days after and none of us has woken at 4o'clock in the morning shouting “of course!” So it may always be a mystery... Apologies to anyone who decided against going down there and feel it could have affected their score. There was much mutterings about confusion at control 37: Peg Way and Post Lane. Hands up time. Sorry everyone. The number of underline marks confused here. Everyone who wrote down either Peg or Post was awarded the points. Steve Pearson gave it blood, sweat and tears (well I'm not sure about the tears!) but there is even blood smeared on his answers sheet!  Fear not: superficial only, no first aid needed. (Good thing too, my first aid kit was in the car. Shhh! don't tell the risk assessment!) Despite that mistake the impression I got was that there was a big turnout , lots of participants said they enjoyed it, there were plenty of newcomers and those that haven't come along for a season or two. So I'm pleased.
