Planners Thanks and Comments:
Hope you enjoyed Whalley. It was smaller and much less complicated than Penwortham but variety in the areas used make the whole series more interesting. Nobody got them all but Steve managed 30 out of the 37 available.
The point of the 60 pointer was to try to inject a bit of Christmas spirit into the event, not to provide a trick question! When I surveyed the area there were only 2 really obvious reindeer, lit up, high on the corner of the building. There wasn’t an inflatable in the garden and I must have missed the eight on the letter box. I have therefore allowed 2, 3 or 11!!
Thanks to Gary, The Swan landlord - for hosting us and supplying the pie & peas, and to Mary and Dave for the results analysis on the night.
All the best for Christmas. See you at Chorley in the new year.
Mike Ormerod
Street League Co-Ordinator’s Comments:
At last I can comment on an event from personal experience! Each area brings a different challenge. At Whalley there was a cluster of controls around the town centre, but then the decision was which of the three loops would prove the most profitable? An area where it could have been easy either to gain considerable time penalties by being too ambitious or come in much too early by running out of options. But most people seemed to time things well and avoid these problems. Thanks to Mike Ormerod for updating and redrawing the map, as well as planning and organizing a highly enjoyable event. Also to Mary Wheeler and – once again – Dave Hargreaves for joining in to help. Hopefully he will be able to start competing again in the New Year.
A reminder that the League Tables after 4 events are now on the website (www.sroc.org). No surprise to see Karen Nash, Steve Lang, John Britton, Paul Turner, Ali Welsh and Chris Roberts amongst the leaders, but note too the strong performance by the young Nash brothers, currently lying 7th on the age-adjusted league table and leading pair. Also Dawn Lock is elevated to 10th place on age-adjustment, just ahead of Bill. Once the Whalley results are added, some people will be on five scores, and trying to lose their weaker ones in the remaining events.
