Planners’ comment.

I must apologise for not being able to meet you all on he evening.  I was detained at school.  There was no snow on the ground this year, but there was certainly a frost in the air.  Our team of gallant helpers, Maureen, Richard and David, had to put up with the cold without any of the benefits of a nice run to warm them up.  Comments from competitors were generally favourable but there was some small issues raised.  Yes one hydrant was high up lamp post and difficult to see, and Steve’s original map appears to have been drawn through a slightly distorting lens, however I am confident that it was fair and served its purpose for the event.  Now that I am working less hours I will endeavour to revise the East Lancashire areas with the aid of OCAD.

There was some debate over a couple of controls.  No 20   H – in daylight this is 75/20 but we allowed 75/2.  We did not allow 75 by itself, as most H fractions in Padiham have a 75 on top.  No 29  LP – there was another pole alongside the lamp post and some people wrote the number from this pole instead.  This other number was not allowed, because in Padiham, lamp posts have lamps on them, and the other pole did not.

Just a thought:- there is a time in your life when your children start to challenge your performance.  I am resigned to being beaten at orienteering by both of my daughters.  Has that time arrived for Karen yet or was it just a blip?  Watch future events with interest to find out the answer!

Thanks for your support

John

Acting Co-ordinators’ Comments.

Thanks to John and his PFO team for an excellent event and pub choice.  The tropical climate of the changing rooms contrasted with the outside temperature, but it did ensure I returned to the warmth and comfort in good time.  It was good to see more PFO competitors than on some previous Guest Events, I hope they will return for some of our future events.

Congratulations on outstanding runs from Paul F and John B in the absence of Ali and Paul T (who is working down South) on the 75mins, and also from Frances, new-member Steve Wrigley (previously FMC),  Webmaster Kesby, John Hickman, and the Nash Juniors. We also congratulate Chris and Matt on becoming British Schools Champions last weekend for Year 6 and Year 8 categories. It proves again that a good structured training programme gets its reward.  Well done !

I have once more placed all Juniors and Novices in the 30-60 results, to give them the better league scores.  If this causes any offence to anyone, then please let me know at Freckleton.

A reminder that Reflective Vests are now on sale in many ‘bargain hardware’ shops at around £3.

For those who did not get to the SROC ‘Proper’ Night Event near Kendal on Nov 12th ,  you missed an exceptionally good event.  I cannot remember a Green course at night with such sustained technical challenge, especially if not using a hyper-seachlight headtorch.  Virtually no useful path routes, and the broken limestone is quite adventurous in the dark.  Perhaps Chris or Paul can bring a set of maps to pass round at Freckleton.   If you have not tried one yet, do consider trying the real night-thing at one of NW Night Series.

               See you at Freckleton,        Ian

An extra helper(s)  for each event would be helpful for Registration & Start Timekeeping,  especially for Events 6 & 10 where David J. and Brian L. respectively are not available on the evening.

Ali Welsh has suggested Event 10 should start earlier than the usual ( say 6.00 to 7.00pm ) so that the prizegiving can be completed a little earlier for the benefit of those who have to rise early for work on the Thursday.    Would this inconvenience anyone ?
