Planners Comments

Thanks everyone for coming to the first Street “O” of the season.  We had a good turnout boosted greatly by the presence of a large numbers of Dallam Road Runners.  I hope they enjoyed their little foray into orienteering,  and may come back for more.  The weather was unseasonably mild and felt unusual for a Street O,  which I often associate with inclement weather.

Apologies for the control no. 22 which was in the wrong place.  Some people worked it out, and others, who put a ? in the answer box, were credited with visiting it.  Scores were generally on the low side, not a deliberate ploy, but just happened as I dispersed controls over the whole map, and it is a hilly area.  I hope people did not waste too much time on road crossings, as this can be time consuming at the major roads.

The penalties were a little different from previous years, with the aim to simplify the system.  What counted was how many whole minutes or part of a minute late one was, rather than timing to the nearest 15s.  Thanks to Paul for an excellent map.  Thanks to the Gregson for letting us take over a section of their bar.  It seemed to work well and we had an exit all to ourselves.

See you at Padiham in 2 weeks,  details are appended.

Acting Co-ordinators Comments

Welcome to our Dallam runners and other newcomers and visitors.

As last season, I have placed all Juniors and Novices from the ‘60 mins’ onto the ‘Short’ Results, where they get the benefit from their unused time.  Can I suggest they enter this category in future events, even when intending to hone their skills at finishing close to 60 minutes.

You will note that the Entry Fee has been held at the same £1 as it has been for the last 18 years, and not increased to allow for the hire of facilities when the organizer so wished, or found necessary, as I had mentioned at our Clitheroe Finale last Spring.

Before I could submit my costed proposal for these, and other, changes, the SROC Committee had considered the future of the Street Events, and decided they were unhappy with several aspects.of the way the Street Events were moving away from the rest of the Wednesday Training format.

They have decided that:

·        The entry fee should remain at £1.

·        The series should aim to return at least half the ‘event profits’ to SROC funds.

·        Events should, wherever possible, be based on Pub / Restaurants, serving late hot-food, and where we might then be able to use their full facilities without cost.

·        The main alternative is to base an event outdoors, in a suitable car-park, and then proceed later to a Pub / Restaurant as above.

·        Room hire should only be considered in exceptional circumstances, and with prior approval.

·        Prizes should be limited to only the major categories, as the recent system is seen to devalue the achievement of the main prizewinners.

Will this seasons SROC organizers please note and follow these new guidelines.
