Many thanks to my
helpers, Ian Evans and Cherith Knott, and to all of you for a good
turnout. I hope you enjoyed the special
challenge of Freckleton and Warton, and the excellent facilities at The
Ship.
I checked all the
controls that anyone got wrong, the following night in the dark. Of these only No 42 was unfair ( not
sufficiently visible in the dark ), so all 3 competitors who visited this have
been awarded the 40 points.
I also gave the
Nash boys 10 points for No 16. The H
fraction was not quite right but was near enough to be sure they were
there. I’m afraid the rest of you with
mistakes were not quite in the right place !

Co-ordinators Comments
As you will have
noticed on the last NWOA Fixtures List
Peter Knott has taken over as Street Co-ordinator for the remainder of
this Street Season. I will distribute
the set of Templates to the remaining event organizers, and the Organiser will
then arrange with David Kesby for the Results to be displayed on the Website,
as for all other SROC events. You will
thus in future get your results and information from the Website and not
E-mailed from the co-ordinator. Please
address all queries to Peter on
01772 683072, or write to him at 17
Westbourne Avenue, Wrea Green, Preston PR4 2PL
and note Peter does not do e-mail.
Lots of best
performances for the season at Freckleton, including John B., Karen back to top
form, Steve W., Rowena, Glenys, John A., Moz, Team Roome, David W., Jim D., and
Liam and Leonie, plus several others.
Everyone seems to have enjoyed Peter’s courses.
One of my excuses
for the lateness of these results is that I keep losing the bit of paper that
has the details of the birth of a second son to Catherine and Moz Kitching in
September. Catherine tells me that both
mother and son Thomas? are doing well.
Our congratulations and best wishes to all. Perhaps Moz can give Karen the appropriate full information in time
for the News of Members in the next SROC Newsletter.
This season the
Blackpool Tower Trophy will be competed for at the Fleetwood Event on January
11th. This is especially
appropriate as Dawn and Bill were the donors of this special trophy, originally celebrating a Blackpool Promenade
Event during the Illuminations Season, until the traffic congestion convinced
us this was no longer a viable proposition.
It is now awarded for the best age-scaled result at a specified
Blackpool area event, by someone who has not previously won this trophy. Based on last years Blackpool East
performances the people to beat are the Team Roome, Brian Looker, and Glenys
Ferguson.
You will notice
Paul Turner and Edward Mellor have done private self timed runs at
Freckleton. This option is open to all
regulars who cannot make a particular event.
Ideally send an A4 SAE envelope and your entry fee to the organizer on
the night, and return your answers and time-taken before the next event. League points are normally allowed, but of
course you are not allowed a higher score than that of the on-the-night winner.
The next event is
on Wednesday in Longsands and Fulwood, Preston, organized by John and Sue
Denmark. John is due for investigative
surgery on Tuesday, and we all send him our best wishes, and hope to see him on
Wednesday in his Managerial Role keeping his support team on the straight and
narrow. Note the availability of earlier
than usual starts.
The Next Street Events:
Wednesday 14th December. Street League Event 4 Preston East –
Longsands with Fulwood
( the road linking Eastway and Sharoe Green Lane )
Please note John’s flyer with map
and travel guide as distributed at Freckleton or see Website.
Travel: From N & W leave M55 J1 onto A6 towards Preston. Immediately turn L , then R at
roundabout onto Eastway. After nearly a
mile take 3rd exit at roundabout No 2 into Sherwood Way. The pub is on R after 400 yds. Please use
side door on SW side of pub, and use that park instead of the one next to the
church.
From S & E
, leave M6 at J31A, follow signs for Preston East. At second roundabout
when going NW turn L into Sherwood Way as above.
Food: Only available
until 7.00pm.
Courses: Usual short, medium and long score events.
Start times: 6.00 pm – 7.30 pm
Note this
is a special early start time to allow FMC members and anyone else interested
to see a presentation of ‘Kachenjunga Revisited’ by noted photographer Boyd
Harris, in The Raikes Hotel Blackpool.

An extra helper(s) for some event would be helpful for Registration & Start
Timekeeping, especially for Events 6
& 10 where David J. and Brian L. respectively are not available on the
evening.
Ali Welsh has suggested Event 10 should start
earlier than the usual ( say 6.00 to 7.00pm ) so that the prizegiving can be
completed a little earlier for the benefit of those who have to rise early for
work on the Thursday. Would this
inconvenience anyone ?
And Finally:
Thanks to everyone for your support over the
part 12 years in making the Street League having been such good fun to take
part in, and for your work in doing all the hard stuff of mapping, organising,
checking, and running the events. I
hope that ‘The Street’ continues to attract such a quorum of good
sporting characters, and that ‘The Street’ remains strictly a fun event, but
with ‘a special difference’, keeps up its technical standards, and does its
best to meet the training needs of such a wide range of ages and abilities.
I am going to miss being in the middle of it
all, but hope at least I will now find the time for some gentle OCAD practice,e
and try and bring some of our older hand-drawn maps to the excellent hight
standard achieved by, Brian Looker, John Denmark, Paul Ferguson, Mike Ormerod
and others.
Thank
you again, have a great Christmas and
festive season, and I wish you
successful enjoyable Orienteering in 2006 and beyond.
Cheers
Ian
