ORGANISER'S COMMENTS
Congratulations to host borough Lancaster in their victory today. Strength in depth is what was needed with the best three girls and best three boys counting towards the team total. Points were awarded to equal the place attained, except for incomplete runs which were awarded 10 points more than the lowest finisher (ie 71 pts). The smallest total points was therefore the winner. Lancaster emerged clear winners with 78 pts, although 2nd place was hotly contested with Preston (90 pts) just pipping Rossendale with 94. Full scores with names of scoring runners are shown below.
Some terrific times were achieved, with some very fast running while navigating at speed. Unfortunately some of the competitors were a bit too quick at one or two controls and their ecard failed to register a punch. Those affected can nevertheless congratulate themselves on completing the course in every other respect, even finding all controls in the right order was hard enough. For the few who took some controls out of order, perhaps you have experienced several score events and this may have been your first event where all controls had to be visited in the prescribed order. You will know better at your next such event, but any way well done for finding them all.
Medals were presented to the top three teams by the county's top junior orienteer, Becca Roberts. All thanks are due to Steve Maclean without whose Herculean efforts over the last few weeks this event could not have taken place. Chris
