Moz’s comments.
A very good turnout for the last one before Christmas. We were originally offered the lounge bar of The Highfield, but the landlady changed her mind so we had to move to the vaults. Though not as palatial, it wasn’t as smoky as the lounge, and we were entertained in the quieter moments by a particularly vociferous local who thought that every other word began with ”f”.
There were one or two issues with the controls. The first is entirely my fault and I can’t apologise enough. The answer to 18 was shown as “H on LP”. Peter correctly pointed out when he checked my route, that the H is in fact on the TP that was next to the LP. I changed it in my notes, but this unfortunately didn’t make it to the final draft. Luckily it was a 10-pointer and not many of you visited it. If it was a 40, I might have found an angry mob waiting for me in the car park. I allowed any answer for this control as correct.
Controls 32 and 47 were a little ambiguous, so as it’s Christmas, and to prove that I’m not as miserable as you think I am, I’m allowing 5 or 7 for 32, and 5 or 6 for 47.
Some of the scores above are
slightly different to those given out on the night. I managed to miss a few
answers and get a few totals wrong, due to a combination of poor lighting, and
my failing eyesight and dodgy maths. All is now correct I hope.
I’d finally like to thank Peter for
performing the more onerous task of clocking you all out and in, and to wish
you all a merry Christmas.
I was
convinced that the 15th was too close to Christmas for a decent
turnout, so thanks for proving me wrong
yet again ! Thanks to Moz and Peter for
a well appreciated event and an excellent Christmas cake. Sorry to those who found the room too
smokey, note the room change was the landlady’s choice and not Moz’s . I presume we all would prefer a non-smoking
area where available, but agree that an indoor HQ is on balance better than
using the car-park in winter.
Please
continue to invite anyone who might enjoy an O-run to our 2005 events, and
organizers will publicise through local sports clubs. A good quorum is useful for the SROC finances, and also makes it
a better social event. Please do make
an effort to mix with our visitors, and offer them your experience on strategy
and techniques.
A reminder
that the events are covered by the BOF national insurance. If you cannot make the event date, you can
self-time on a private run another evening.
In most cases we will give League Points for your run, but you cannot beat
the on-the-night score. Please arrange
directly with the organizer to pick up a Map and Answer sheet. Usual £1 fee, or £1.50p if to be posted out,
but note you run at your own risk, and will not be covered by our
insurance. You also might consider re-running
your local event and checking how much faster you can go round when you know
the route.
