Planner's Comments
I would like to thank all the competitors who braved a cold night to come over to East Lancashire.
I hope you enjoyed the run. I tried to avoid too much out and back running and only 43 and 49 came into that category. I like to set puzzles from the start and for many of you the first problem was when to go for 31. For the runners on the long courses how to include 41 was a major headache.
Congratulations to Paul who bounced back from his epic at Thornton to win tonight. He only missed five ten point controls but also got a thirty point control wrong. He used his time to best effect and only came in six seconds late.
There was only one contentious control – no. 36 (TP no 15). The problem was another TP about 30 m south. There were eight correct answers and three incorrect ones; unfortunately both Nash teams got it wrong.
Thanks to Richard and Maureen for all their help on the night and to Ian for all his help in the run up to the event. I could not have managed without them.
I have used Great Harwood for two consecutive years and will look elsewhere for the next time. I have my eye on Whalley but it may be too rural. I am still working on Richard to map Ramsbottom. Once in your life, when your long suffering partner asks you where you are going running tonight, you can answer “Upper
Ramsbottom”!
John Ashton
Our thanks to Team Ashton and Richard Catlow for an enjoyable event, despite the climb back up the hill. The usual crop of good performances, especially Frances and Steve.
The prize winners for all categories other than pairs could change after Leyland.
Be there, fly around in extended daylight, and collect your trophy and prize.
Ian Evans
