Planner's Comments ( Sarah Watkins and Jon Carberry )
Thanks to everyone for turning up in such miserable weather – we hope you all enjoyed your runs. Apologies to those who were caught out by the new road missing off the map near Number 33 – I’m afraid we just didn’t notice it. We hope those that got caught at the level crossing weren’t too annoyed (Karen seemed to be the worst off, losing 5 minutes). I thought about providing train times but there was too much guess work involved in calculating how long it would take a train to get to the level crossing from the stations at either end.
Rowena’s score is a little deflated, as, having lost her pen early on in the run, she had to memorise the answers and write as many down as she could when she finished. There were a few disputed answers, which have been discussed by the jury and we have allowed the following:
Number 34: TP 172 Number 30: H 100 or 1
We have, however, not allowed TP 93 (instead of 94) at Number 36 as the dot is clearly on the correct side of the road.
Co-ordinators Comments
Thanks to Sarah and Jon for an excellent event on the technicolour Ferguson map. As SROC Captain Sarah has been busy organising the Yvette Baker Trophy final, so apologies for the later than usual results, but at least we will agree it was sensible prioritising. I was going to admire the way Sarah and Jon organised the break in the foul weather, until, when I was up an unmapped new cul-de-sac, with pens that would not write on wet paper, and the heavens opened and tipped hailstones on my head. It made me appreciate the nice warm pub with good beers even more. A good solution to the pens problem is the Looker system using a soft pencil sharpened at both ends.
The usual speedy performances by Ali and Paul F, and a good performance by Les Davies, but I suspect that he will be lucky if he thumps Paul T again this season.
Dave Kesby is back to top form, and Glenys got a few good scalps as runner-up. Newcomer Steve Wrigley, who is more used to routefinding with ropes on big mountains, was an impressive 5th with Moz and so loses any hope of ever being considered a novice on the short course should he wish to run down !
The first League Tables will be calculated after the Bispham Event at the Gynn Pub, tomorrow night. Bispham details were circulated last weekend, as well as on the Lytham results. I hope we see you all at Bispham. If you cannot be with us, please enjoy a very merry Christmas, and rejoin us at the David Kesby promotion at Kirkham URC in January 2004.
