SROC Committee Meeting      Minutes                    21.2.2013

Present: Tony Marlow, Rowena Browne, Martyn Roome, Julian Lailey, Gavin Smith, Chris Roberts, Mark Edwards, Dave Hargreaves, Karen Nash, Jane Anthony.

Apologies: Quentin Harding, Alex Finch, Dick Collins, Helen- sent report.

Minutes of last meeting- accepted as true record.

Matters Arising:

·         Blakeholme – fine not using N bit

·         Hampsfell one of L5Day

·         GCW- map underway Action TM meet with Peter K re info for it. KN has piece ready for FRA fixtures  Action KN for FRA magazine.

·         Club Meal – Martin Stone will speak, also KQ has meal for JK in hand

·         Club Mark- on going, needs more coaching, juniors etc which is happening

·         Nicky Nook and TWT – all in hand

·         OCAD training wasn’t in newsletter but is perhaps best as and when people need it

·         Whitewell etc – event anniversary is 2014 but JL keen to do something in 2013 to mark the territory, get people thinking and coincide with first attempt at map and compass by our original members ie June 2013. Agreed go ahead. Action JL modify last sentence of his proposal so SROC get first option to run.  To coincide with picnic but give some a chance to beat P Booth’s record.  (see later) SN have replied to challenge but not PFO agreed to offer a meet at Cannock in Sept linked to BO Middle champs so more will travel. JA suggested coach transport. Agreed to use the original and 25th anniversary ‘trophy’. Lots of publicity re Whitewell, SN v SROC etc. Trees as celebration- not keen on remote area offered near Whitewell. Agreed Beacon Fell would be visited by more. Action MR ask them, especially re public planting and publicity. O Ringen joint 50th will happen , we may be able to hire a club hut.

Events:

See 5 yr plan.

·         Spring – sorted and OK. Flyers done, worked for W Park. Harder for next ones as further and fewer live locally. Action MR use captured emails and local press.

·         TWT in hand. NN in hand- no white. Action DH Flyer. RB put on BO site

·         Picnic- change date? So no clash with half term, agreed July Sat 13th

·         Summer Sprint – CR agreed coordinate. Prizes at picnic. MR suggested pub after, agreed encourage organisers to see if can start and finish at or near pub.

·         No summer Preston street O – it will be in autumn and could link into Night Street O

·         Farleton Sept- 200 limit so must be pre entry Action DH email Roy all this

·         Autumn series Lancaster based to link with ‘Newcomers’ Spook O could be part of this

·         NY Day now Beacon Fell

·         Handicap Arnisde

·         2015 TWT?? Review after this one. Our commitment that year is big with CSC final, JK Sprint so leave Level B Torver for 2016

·         Harvester (email)  agreed Ok in principle but do we have the volunteers, best to go it alone, not joint. Action JL email QH TM offered share organisation.

Mapping.  None in absence of AF. JL and JB mapping Whitewell.

Secretary.  Membership 85 seniors and 31 juniors plus a few Friends and Honorary. Action KN email out new membership list in next few weeks.

Treasurer – no report in Dick’s absence.

Coaching (MR)

4 club members went to conference. Heard re Explorer and Run Challenge for families and 18-30s. Simplified maps, Preston a chosen hub, mass start, social, simple maps, not quite O as we know it. Need more info Steve V to come and talk soon. We may be able to get new members from it.

SRJS – already had 3 Saturdays and 2 sessions this half term. 8  juniors at Arnside. Very well received.  Hamish W and Charlotte Jackson for now but coming to an end. SROC has many coaches but their time is taken up with NWJS. There is a gap! Need to share it round? JL keen to use Star Awards to encourage this and eg All Yr 5 and 6 at Scotforth to get 1 star. ME they can link into his work at Ripley. Lots of good suggestions- session a week before event on area, am of event. JL aiming 1 a fortnight- some thought this might be hard to sustain. Suggested small payment to cover costs. Action JL coordinate and plan.

 

Working Group- membership etc. Aim for autumn and link with schools work and autumn series. Use JL and ME links with local schools. Link to School Games- B’pool  Final and District rounds – Yr5-7 Proposals emailed already.

Juniors.  Laurence selected for World Schools, Helen Ockenden – selected Interland.

Club Captain.

·         4/5 at CSC- depleted team for many reasons. Relays for JK and BO entered QH and ME

·         KQ – meal at JK
