SROC Mapping Officer Role Description 

General 

• Subscribe to BOF mapping group distribution list.

• Keep abreast of current developments in mapping, e.g. latest version of OCAD, new ISOM symbols etc.

Maintain Current Mapping Stock 

• Store OCAD copies of all SROC maps, and backup regularly.

• Provide to Planners when requested.

• Advise planner on map printing. Help with minor update of map if required by planner.

• Most Printing done by P.Ferguson at present.

• Use other printers, notably in Cypher Digital Printers in Milnthorpe for 1:15000 or particularly detailed maps.

• Arrange for major update of surveys as required.

• Transfer all remaining non-OCAD maps to OCAD.

Develop New Areas 

•  Identify potential new areas

•  For new area:

•  Identify landowners and other “stake holders”, e.g. English Nature. Obtain permissions to map in principle.

•  Agree funding for survey and possible first event date/type with committee.

•  Obtain funding form external sources if necessary.

•  Tender for bids to survey area from professional surveyors.

•  Choose surveyor and agree price/timescale for surveying.
