The Area
This excellent competition area was used for the Lakes 5 Days in 2010 and 2022.Also the British Relays in 2012, and the CSC/CST Final in 2015.

Parking will be in a different area to previous events, on land off Underbarrow Road to the North of the mapped area.. More details to follow. There will be a parking fee of £2 per car to be collected as you enter the parking field.

The event is very conveniently located for travel by car (11m from the M6). Oxenholme on the main West Coast line is less than 3m away (change for Kendal Station). You can stay in Kendal and walk to the event.

The competition area is a largely open limestone area sloping down from the craggy escarpment of Scout Scar, from which there are great views out to the west. Visibility is good throughout the area. Dry stone walls (1.5m high) enclose two large areas – one to the south and one to the north. The southern enclosure has a parkland character with short grass and a scattering of mature trees. The remainder of the area has few trees but some shrub cover of gorse, juniper and thorn. There are patches of bracken. The going underfoot is very fast, with short grass, very stony in places with some heather etc.
