Planners Thanks and Comments:
It seems a few years since I last planned a street event, and I had forgotten how much pleasure can be gained from watching others taking on the challenges set them, and from hearing their comments afterwards. Another wet night did little to dampen spirits, and I was amazed by the pristine condition of some people's answer sheets when compared with the partially disintegrated papier mache from others. I am certain that we managed to award points for every correct answer in the end, although some took some very close inspection! Perhaps we need to investigate waterproof paper in future? There were no real problem control sites, which is as it should be, although I did get a couple of queries. One of the sub stations was apparently difficult to read, but on looking back at it I realized it was one of the sites which I had chosen after dark on a rainy day! I was only carrying a tiny LED torch at the time, so I am unsure why that one was hard to see. Paul T contested an H on TP, saying it was on a LP. It turned out that he had read the serif on the 'M' of Morecambe as a side street! I was very impressed with the quality of time keeping, especially on the 60 minute course.
Perhaps the lack of hills contributed to accurate estimation of time required. It was good to see a couple of people trying street O for the first time. Perhaps I should have mentioned to Mark Saunders that controls are not all worth the same points, but he racked up a good total anyway. Thanks to all of you who made complimentary remarks about the planning, I had tried to make it as hard as possible for you to choose which way to go, and I seem to have been successful! I am glad that many of you seemed to like the venue and appreciated the fine ales and food. We surprised Chris the landlord by the number of meals ordered, I had told him to expect about half as many. I hope the food was worth waiting for; Chris was very happy and has invited us back. Thanks to Sarah, Sophie and Jacob for their help in preparation and on the night, Quentin for help in scoring, and to Paul (and Glenys) for map printing and of course Glenys for coordinating the series.
