Planners Thanks and Comments:
A record turnout made a great start to the season. (Archivist Dawn may contradict, but I think this is the most competitors in the whole 25+ year history of  SROC street events) When taking account of pairs and shadowing adults, there were 65 people running round, including 10 juniors. It was good to see a lot of new faces, both SROC members having a first try at a street event and people attracted from the OZone. The Packet Boat provided a spacious and welcoming venue, and it was a lovely night for running. Apologies to those competitors who could not identify the start position on the map. In retrospect, the red start triangle should have been bigger, and the x identifying the grid reference point should have been left out! Paul and I must also both be colour blind for failing to spot that the Royal Mail box was actually grey. Otherwise, there seem to have been no real problems with the map.
Several people have had answers disallowed, making an obvious error when almost everyone else has got it correct. There seemed to be some cases of repeating the control number as the answer and a few lampposts instead of telegraph poles. John Ashton has been credited with the 50 points when he was reluctant to disturb a courting couple. How many others were not so considerate! A new name at the top of the 75 minute course. Quentin  deserves applause for the legibility of his answer sheet too! On the 60 minutes, his daughters were also achieving a strong result, beating the more seasoned campaigners, Matt and Chris Nash. Harry Stephenson is another junior to note: a high score with one second to spare.  Thanks to Paul for checking the controls and sitting outside in the cold for several hours. Also thanks to those who delayed their runs to help brief newcomers. Glenys Ferguson
