Compass Sport Cup match at Watergrove postponed

CompassSport NW Round 1 Team co-ordinators

While we are still a little away from the due date, the conditions on the Watergrove area and its access, together with a forecast which has little prospect of improvement in the next 2 weeks, have necessitated another early inspection. Unfortunately, the conclusion is that the area will not improve sufficiently in time to allow the event to go ahead on the 24th January and so the decision has reluctantly been taken to cancel for this date and postpone to a later date.

While we would prefer to be able to advise a new date to you immediately, we have been unable to suggest one that does not impact events elsewhere or compromise one or more competing clubs. As we also understand from Peter that other Round 1 events are likely to be postponed, it is unlikely that a revised date can be agreed in the next fortnight.

With so many other events and activities already cancelled in this prolonged severe spell, I'm sorry to bring more disappointing news, but hope you will appreciate the early notice now before you go all out to complete your entries and travel arrangements.

Watergrove postponement

Myself and the organiser, Clive Atty, visited the area today. The snow is knee deep on the lower slopes as it was last weekend when it was waist deep on the upper slopes. The snow is compacted on the access roads and the 5 day forecast for Watergrove has a maximum temperature of 1oC with possible further snowfall.

The snowfall has also meant that control tags put out before the new year were buried under snow when the controller visited the area.

In conjunction with the controller we have therefore taken the decision to postpone the event at this early stage and seek to rearrange the fixture in the near future.
