Points to note for this event:- The event will be signposted form the A590 at the Cartmel turnoff at the top of Lindale Hill. There are currently major roadworks involving this junction so care will be needed. Assembly and car parking is on the flat field that has been used previously for regional events and the last Lakes 5 Day. We are expecting Wilf’s and CompassPoint to be in attendance. To provide a different layout of courses from previous events and with the difficulty of locating suitable alternative car parking has meant that there is a 35 min walk to the start and a 30min return to the assembly field from the finish. There will not be a clothing transfer or provision of drinks at the finish. Negotiation for access with the several landowners on and around Hampsfell has been difficult. In order to gain access across their land to get to the start and from the finish, we have given an undertaking that every field gate is left closed. Failure to do so may result in orienteering being prohibited in the future. Please comply and don’t climb stone walls or take short cuts. The area is a mixture of open fell and woodland both physically and technically challenging. In both the open and wooded areas there are some areas of exposed limestone pavement. If the weather is wet great care is needed in crossing the bare rock surfaces. If you have time, take in the fine views of Ingleborough to the east and Morecambe Bay to the south! Enjoy competing on this beautiful area in early Springtime. Mike & Mary |
